About School

Founded in 2010, Evliya Çelebi Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School is the only tourism and hospitality school in Van. We have 22 teachers and 278 students. Our students are aged between 15 and 18.

Our departments are accommodation & transport and food & beverage services. We have got 5 workshops; kitchen, reception, service, bar and housekeeping. Students get both theoretical and applied trainings in general and vocational disciplines for 4 years. Our graduates can work as receptionists, barmen, cooks and waiters/waitresses. From May to September every year, our 10th and 11th graders have to do summer apprenticeship at hotels in Antalya and Bodrum to put their theoretical knowledge and skills into practice and get acquainted with real working conditions and social atmosphere. As a boarding public school, we have a dormitory building and almost half of our students accommodate there. In addition to taking care of their own rooms, students also take turns to provide assistance in cooking, ironing, housekeeping and cleaning to the staff of the dormitory as part of their vocational training. Our students have registered some success records in vocational, cultural and sports areas. For the 2018 cycle, we took part in and completed an Erasmus Plus KA102 student mobility project about food security. Besides, at the International Antalya Hotel Equipment Fair (2016) our students got the first prize in Housekeeping Olympics. We also got the first prize (provincial level) at "Good Examples in Education" contest thanks to our e-Twinning project titled "Taste of Europe". Our school also boasts of many prizes in sports contests such as badminton, swimming, climbing and running. Van, our city, is located on the eastern part of Turkey and hosts the largest lake in Turkey. Van is also famous for its cat whose eyes are of different colors; one eye being amber and the other blue. Van breakfast is well-known all around Turkey thanks to the variety of local food it contains and hence it has a special place in breakfast culture. Van, also known as Tuşba, builds on the relics of the capital of the Urartu civilization which reigned around 900-600 B.C. Among the other historical castles, churches and monuments, the historical Akdamar church located on the Akdamar Island, stands out with its architecture and it receives lots of tourists every year.
